RANKIN’ LELE and PAPA LEU are among the best known and most respected artists of Salento Reggae. Since the early 90s they have cultivated, with experience and passion, an infinite love for this musical culture, producing and performing live in a multitude of different but always consistent artistic forms. In their sound as in the lyrics there is all the artistic baggage gained in an endless succession of beach parties, dancehall in the countryside, events in the farms and concerts in the squares that have made Salento a music scene known and respected all over the world.
Born and raised artistically in the “cradle” of Italian Reggae with Sud Sound System, the duo from Trepuzzino – for friends the ‘2 Lele’ – is certainly one of the most mature fruits of the second generation of singers and selecta Raggamuffin from Salento. Despite their very young age, RANKIN’ LELE and PAPA LEU boast a respectable artistic history. At the age of 12 they founded the “2 Lele Posse” and the inspiration, even then, was very clear: Reggae as a message of peace to bring to people, under the motto: “unicu core, unicu sangu”, to quote the refrain of one of their songs. If the road was already mapped out in those years, all that remained was to follow it.
